List of Approved Products

LIST OF APPROVED PRODUCTS

Regulation 31(12) requires that a list of all the substances and products approved or refused under Regulation 31(4)(a) and all approvals revoked or modified, shall be published, at least once a year. The list, together with unconsolidated Update listings giving details of changes and additions to the List of Approved Products, were previously posted on the DWI website.

Following the changes in the approval process for products, this “List of Approved Products” will now be revised on a regular basis, as new products are approved or changes made to existing approved products. If you have printed a copy of this list, please ensure that you refer to the latest issue of the list on this webpage.

On a yearly basis the Scottish Executive also publishes a list. This can be found on their website at http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/

Notes:

  1. Water treatment chemicals and filtering materials - products conforming to an appropriate BS EN Standard do not need an approval under Regulation 31(4)(a) of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000 [2001 in Wales]. Appendix 2, Section 2.1 & 2.2 of the list gives details of water treatment chemicals and filtering materials which are currently covered by BS EN Standards.

  2. Construction products, including pipes and associated fittings – many of these products are covered by published BS EN standards, e.g. BS EN ISO 15874 to 15877 (Plastic piping systems for hot and cold water installations). Whilst these standards address general fitness for purpose issues, they do not adequately cover the suitability of the products for use with drinking water. Therefore, in all cases, approval under Regulation 31 will be required pending completion of the European Acceptance Scheme (EAS) later this decade.

At intervals throughout the year update listings are produced. The current update list is available. Once a year these are consolidated into the new list.
