Consumer Market Research and Consultation |
|
|
OverviewThis section outlines the results of any efforts made by DWI to conduct consumer research or to consult the public on specific issues. It is important to distinguish between the two sections. Approximately every three years, DWI conducts market research to understand consumers perceptions, information needs and trends with relation to drinking water quality. This in turn allows DWI to take actions to satisfy consumer needs that are clearly identified. The outcome of past research, and actions taken by DWI as a result, can be found in the first section. Consumer consultations, pertaining to Periodic Reviews, are not related to the research above. Periodic Reviews determine price limits for Water Companies in England and Wales. DWI wishes to ensure that provision is made for consumer consultation on drinking water quality issues as part of its input to the Review. The results outlined in the second section provide information on consumer preferences and issues of concern that informed DWIs input to the 1999 Periodic Review. More specifically, the research explored whether consumers regarded drinking water as a cause for concern and whether they would be prepared to pay more for water to enable their concerns to be dealt with, and to what extent they would pay more.
