Information Letter 7/2006

To: Board Level and Day to Day Contacts of Water and Sewerage Companies and Water Companies in England and Wales

Dear Sir/Madam

FURTHER UPDATE ON THE RESTRUCTURING OF THE DRINKING WATER INSPECTORATE

1.      The purpose of this letter is to provide a further update to the water industry on the organisational changes that have taken place within the Inspectorate over recent months.

2.      Claire Jackson wrote to the industry on 7 September 2005 (Information Letter 13/2005) giving an update on the restructuring of DWI.  Since then, three new Inspectors have joined the Inspectorate and taken responsibilities for allocated water companies.  The attached two files shows the current Inspectorate structure and the structure of the Operations Group.

3.      Copies of this letter are being sent to Pamela Taylor, Chief Executive, Water UK; Richard Wood, Water Supply and Regulation Division, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs; June Milligan, Environment Division, Welsh Assembly Government; Colin McLaren, Drinking Water Quality Regulator for Scotland; Randal Scott, Drinking Water Inspectorate for Northern Ireland; Tony Smith and Chairs of the Regional Consumer Council for Water; Rowena Tye for Office of Water Services; Tony Warn, Environment Agency; Nigel Harrison, Food Standards Agency; and Gary Coleman at the Health Protection Agency.

4.      This letter is being sent electronically to Board Level and day to day contacts. Please acknowledge receipt by email to dwi.informationletters@defra.gsi.gov.uk. Hard copies are not being sent but the letter may be freely copied. Any enquiries about the letter should be addressed directly to Professor Jeni Colbourne.

Yours sincerely

Dr John Gray
Deputy Chief Inspector (Operations)
